Photo Album: Crawl Space Encapsulation & Repair in State College, PA

A homeowner in State College, PA contacted our office seeking crawl space repair assistance. Our crawl space repair specialist, Tom B., was scheduled to provide the customer with a free crawl space repair inspection and quote. Tom discovered that insulation was falling from the ceiling, vents were open, condensation was on the crawl space walls, and the stone floor was wet.   The crawl space showed many signs of moisture problems. Moisture caused the joists to rot over time. As a result, the floors above became uneven with weakened stabilization. Tom discussed his findings with the homeowner after the inspection and proposed a permanent solution to the crawl space issue. As a result of their confidence in Liberty Basement Systems' ability to solve the problem, the homeowner was eager to start the project.   In order to eliminate all crawl space issues and create a healthy space, Tom decided to install the CleanSpace Crawl Space Encapsulation System. In addition, SmartJack Support Posts would be installed for permanent stabilization. As a first step, the crew removed and disposed of the soggy insulation from the ceiling, insulated the rim joists, and installed CleanSpace vent covers to prevent outside moisture from entering. A trench was dug around the interior perimeter of the crawl space floor to install a flangeless drainage system. A sump hole was dug to install the SuperSump Pump System. A drainage mat and CleanSpace vapor barrier liner are then installed over the crawl space floor. In addition to the CleanSpace on the floor, the vapor barrier liner is fastened to the crawl space walls and piers. Any open gaps will be closed with vapor barrier tape.     After encapsulating the crawl space, the team installed the SmartJack system. A supplemental support beam is mounted and leveled before the SmartJack support posts are placed. SmartJacks will straighten and strengthen the bouncy, sagging floors above a crawl space. This engineered structural system won’t settle like masonry piers can; nor will it rot or shift like a wood post.
